I like the focal range of the 24-70, the real problem for me is it's MASSIVE size.

Excellent review !

I am thinking of buying this but the issue is i cant figure out which lens to buy. Ideally an 18-200 VR would be fine but it aint FX compatible :(

The three choices are Nikon 24-120 VR f3.5-5.6
Tamron 24-135 f3.5-5.6
Sigma 24-135 f2.8-5.6

By the number of opinions I have had Tamron is the best choice. Sigma and Nikon both lose sharpness it seems. Whazz ur take...?

I think nikon should now focus on a good mid-range zoom FX lens... and stop upgrading bodies !! :(

Believe it or not, I don't have time to shoot with anything other than what I'm currently testing! So the camera I use is the one I'm testing at that time.

Well I suppose that's not such a bad deal when you're reviewing things like the D700 and 5dMkII.

I just ordered a D700, but, since I am stepping up from a D40, only have DX lenses for the time being. I am aware that the DX crop mode will lower the MP count (which, since I have no need to make large prints, am not entirely bothered by), but would like to know if the drop will simultaneously effect its ISO performance as less pixels = less light gathering. Also, if I forgo the crop and suffer the falloff in quality, does that apply to everything outside the DX frame or just the image circle?

I can't decide between the D3 and the D700. I had my mind set on the D3 but the price has just shot up. this time last year I could have got a D3 and that lens for the same price as a D700 kit if I shopped around. £2200 and now the body only D3 is roughly £3400 (lowest price I've found is £2800
