I have owned the d40 for a couple of months now and I have to say it’s a great piece of kit. It’s tiny and light, but still really solid and satisfying to use.. I would recommend it to absolutely everyone, not just beginners, because of its remarkable picture quality and ideal size.

This video answered all of my questions about this camera. I am a complete beginner with photography, with only experience with a small point and shoot camera. I’m glad you mentioned the bit about it only being 6.1mp as that was something I was curious about as well as the lenses. I know what camera to buy now. Thanks

The camera needs to have lenses called zoom lenses for the zooming. There isn’t any optical or digital zoom. This is the same for every dslrs.

I am an AS photography student and have had this camera for about 4 months now. Personally, and bearing in mind I am quite new to ‘good’ cameras, I think itit wonderful. My pictures come out really clear and it is very easy to use. I frequently use manual and it is alot easier than using non-digital cameras as you can see what the image looks like then change the aperture…
I would reccomend this to anyone who is looking for a good digital camera

Yes you can, but you won’t have autofocus, manual only. I sold my 70-300 cos it doesnot have a motor for auto focusing. D40 doesnot have motor on it’s body, so your lens must have it. Great camera.

Ofcourse.

Its a modern DSLR — which all offer manual shutter speed control.

Wow, this was super, super helpful! I’m looking into buying a new digital camera (the one I have now is some generic brand and is a piece of crap). This one, so far, is at the top of my list. I’m very thankful that you made this video so I don’t go shelling out $500 for something I don’t know much about.
But there is one thing: what is an SLR? What does it mean and what does it stand for?

slr means single lens reflex and dslr just means digital single lens reflex
