leica mp?(the name of a leica special al a cart rangefinder) lol jk, I to a certain extent agree with you. but when it gets to larger formats, it's necessary to have larger megapixel quantities.

Although I'm like everyone else, and the thought of owning a D3x makes me salivate, I'm not sure one could justify the purchase of such a rig unless:
1. You're an art photographer working on a grand scale.
2. You're in advertising, and wanna make a freaking billboard.
If your into photojournalism or wildlife photography in one form or another, the D700 (and yes, perhaps the D3 *rolls eyes*) should suit you just fine.
Personally, I'm a D300 guy. It's a great rig for 80% of us out there.

Huge fan of Nikon. Been shooting with Nikon's since I was 14 years old but I can't seem to understand why they feel the need to **** consumers with these outrages prices. I own a D300 and look to buy a D3 soon. They should implement some sort of discounts for those of us who have been loyal to nikon. 20 years of nikon product, I have probabbly shelled out over 10,000 bucks. In a nutshell, cut cost of products or consumers will find other brands. D3x=overrated

I agree with you biged2226

£5000 for a camera?!!! that's extortion, I don't care what else it does. You're better off with the d700, d3, Sony a900 or that godforsaken, "error 99" infested Canon 5d Mark II. The D300 is beautiful camera by the way, best cropped framed sensor camera on the market, Nikon out did Canon & themselves with the D300 & I can't think how Nikon will improve on something that is simply awesome. Perhaps a faster fps in burst mode without a grip.

The only product on the market right now that competes with the D3x is the Canon 1dsIII, and it only sells for 1k less. So much for everyone's price rant. The D3x isn't badly priced for the target market. Non standard Sony isn't a contender (non standard flash shoe? Is Sony crazy? Pure rubbish!. The Canon 5dII is excellent, but slow- I can't see myself shooting a baseball game with the 5dII and 600mm lens in a light rain can you? .. of course not. Nikon did not miss the mark.

well not every body is part of that "target market", it wouldn't surprise me if Nikon release a D700x (or what ever) in order to compete with Sony & Canon, In regards to the 5d Mark II I have seen sport shots taken with the 5d Mark II on Pbase & flickr, but the 5D Mark II is designed for fashion & landscape. But I stand by my statement that the d3x is extremely expensive.

I'm not sure why anyone would need such a high pixel count, other than the obvious use for tight cropping.
The D300 can surly suit everyones needs.
I mean hell, even billboard can be printed from about 10mp. Even if they do look crappy close up!

Inform me please?

Double the resolution triple the price and not as good as the d3 performance or 1ds mark 3 performance. The only advantage the d3x has is the resolution but to think of it not that many photographers want a high resolution or higher price like the d3x.

only reason someone would need it is if they were a professional photographer, or had enough money that they can buy whatever they want regardless of the price...nikon makes an awesome camera tho!
