how to download pictures on my comp from a nikon camera?

I got a nikon camera from costco at the beginning of summer and went and took pictures all summer long. I want to put all my pictures on my computer but when i plug in the camera to my computer nothing happeneds. Is there a program I have to download or something??
HELP!

btw i have a mac… and i have the cord…
its a nikon coolpix camera

1. Plug the USB cord from the computer to the camera.
2. On your computer open “Image Capture”.
3. Turn on your camera.
4. (Now Image Capture should have a box that has buttons with the option to either “Download Some” or “Download All”) Choose a download setting.
5. When it is done loading, it will open all your photos in Finder for you to view.
