How do you make a light painting using a D90 Nikon Camera?

I just need to know how I could make those cool “light painting” pictures with my camera.
I have a D90 Nikon Camera.

Go into a completely dark room. Set your exposure to one minute. Pop open the shutter and waive a light around.
