I live in Tacoma (30 miles south of Seattle), and I have lived in Portland. Have family and friends in Portland.

I think you would probably do pretty well in Portland and maybe out onto the Oregon coast. Seattle is 200 miles from Portland and when you've done it tons of times it gets really boring to drive. Portland has a pretty good population and some great old churches for weddings. Since Portland is on the northern border of OR and WA theres alot of people in Vancouver too. And again the beaches.

You may need to venture further north to get some business at first, but I am sure you wont have to go far from home to get work pretty soon.

Well, I'd suggest you set up a base first. Next, I'd factor in gasoline prices if you plan on travelling from Portland to
Seattle. A current Seattle photographer might be able to easily outbid you. I would think that Portland weddings should keep you adequately busy, since you will mostly work on weekends anyway. I'd run an ad for weekday courthouse wedding photos! Come up with a gimmick, or catch phrase for those who just 'want the piece of paper', and go from there! Good Luck to you.
