Josh Y asked:

Post an ad on craig’s list - offer a free package to have samples to show to future customers.
You need an ad in the phone book under weddings. Also, do some of your friends weddings “pro-bono” (i.e. for free). Word of mouth travels if you are good.
Have business cards with your website on it. Each time you meet someone engaged, fork it over. You’ll be the one they call when they don’t want to spend time to look up a photographer in the phone book.
See if you can join a studio as a casual or independent part time. You may gain clients through there. Inform people of your love and skill for wedding photography. Someone who needs family pics one day may call you when their daughter is getting married, 1 year later.
It’s a tough market, but there is always a client base.
I went to the local college and interviewed photography students.I had put an ad on their bulletin board, and put my phone number, what i was looking for, and wanted to see their work before i hired them. i set a budget of $150.00 including prints and negatives. The student i hired wanted $50.00 for 2 hours including prints. So that’s what we agreed on. The young man did a WONDERFUL job on my pictures. Ive given his name to tons of people who were looking for a photographer. He has graduated from college and now works as a photographer/ photo journalist for a local paper where we use to live. I hope this helps.
One thing you can do is get in good with reception and wedding sites where you often do weddings, and get on their list of Recommended Vendors. I chose all of our vendors from the list our site gave us for two reasons. I knew they had worked at that site before. And, as I was from out of town, I wouldnt have wanted to risk trusting another vendor.
Also, just start thinking where brides will go while planning their wedding. Are there florists, stationery stores, where you can do cross-promotion or something? It wouldnt hurt to be friendly with others in the wedding business.
local advertisement booklets
come in mail every week or so
have coupon w/free 8×10 with
every order of $500 or more
good luck
I work in the wedding field as a videographer and i get to meet tons of photographers. The best way i have learned is having a website. My business now runs just through internet. I have my info on my website, prices and even demos. After putting your website up, YOU MUST ENTER KEYWORDS. So that when people make a google or yahoo search for photographer, your name will come up on the list. Internet is the BEST way to advertise. And you dont even have to leave home. I work at home and do advertising on the internet. I do over 100 weddings a year and most of them found me on the internet. And it is VERY successful. People are using more of the internet for searching things. Then when you have done all these, give ur clients a deal like discounts or free this if you book us blah blah blah. Trust me, it works great! Also, go to bridal shows. Especially the big event ones. The little bridal shows are a waste of money.
